Drinks Reception

Wednesday 2 September

All registered delegates and guest ticketholders are invited to join us for a drinks reception at the SS Great Britain.

The Ship that Changed the World

SS Great Britain (image (c) SSGB)

The SS Great Britain is one of the most important historic ships in the world. When she was launched in 1843 she was called 'the greatest experiment since the Creation'.

By combining size, power and innovative technology, the famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel created a ship that changed history. His vision for the SS Great Britain made her the great-great-grandmother for all modern ships.

Our drinks reception will take place in the historic Hayward Saloon, and guests are invited to explore this fascinating ship, alive with the sights, smells and sounds of the past.

Conference Dinner

Thursday 3 September

All delegates with inclusive tickets and guest ticketholders are invited to join us for a gala dinner at the M Shed museum.

M Shed – a celebration of Bristol’s working life

The 1950s transit shed, originally called M Shed, on Bristol’s historic wharf has been transformed into a museum. Thought-provoking and fun, M Shed challenges the perceptions of what it has meant to live here over the centuries through the recollections of the people who shaped the city.

M Shed explores the city’s history from prehistoric times to the 21st century. Stories about the city and its people have been discovered through working with experts and communities across the city – a process that will continue for the life of the museum. Rich collections of objects, art and archives also play an important part in bringing those stories to life.

This evening event will include keynote speeches and prize giving.

Coach transport from the UWE campus will be provided.
